Chapter Accomplishments

I love writing about events that chapters have held at their local campuses. It is great to see such awesome events that others can imitate or modify to their individual chapter needs. If you would like to write to me about your chapter accomplishments please email me at vega@nscs.org

The University of North Dakota helped with a tremendous community service event. A small city near the University of North Dakota was devastated by a tornado. Members from the University of North Dakota NSCS chapter held a pancake feed and a battle of the bands to raise money for the city. The University of North Dakota was able to raise $500.00 to donate to this city in need. This is great news and it goes by one of our pillars, SERVICE and I am glad that NSCS was able to help at a time in need! Keep up the good work, University of North Dakota.

The University of Northern Iowa had a great community service in Waterloo, IA. The NSCS chapter of UNI dressed up and volunteered at the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Halloween party. Everyone had a great time and was able to relax for the evening while helping the kids in BBBS organization and had an evening to remember. What a great way to celebrate a holiday event with service!

Chapter Achievements

I just wanted to quickly share with you some articles that were published in the newspaper of two of our chapters.  Please read them if you get a chance!

1. This article talks about the awesome induction that occurred at Keene State College. Lauren Fox, one of the NSCS ambassadors is quoted in the article with the advice she gives to the new inductees about their future experience in NSCS.

Again, Congratulations to Keene State College on an excellent induction!!!

2.  After 10 years since establishing NSCS at the University of Delaware, they are finally awarded with GOLD STAR STATUS. How amazing is that? Their hard work has earned them this recognition AND I can’t believe they were able to raise money for 24 computers to be donated to a children’s Hospital! Great work and I hope to see you on this years’ Gold Star Status!!

——————————————————————————

3. My chapter, Florida International University has began to incorporate INTEGRITY into a local level. This year’s executive board has established a LOCAL integrity scholarship for our chapter. The local scholarship is similar to the one established by the NLC. An FIU student will write an essay where they have been challenged with Integrity. The winner of the scholarship will be announced at the FIU induction and will receive a $150.00 scholarship.

Teach for America! (All major are welcomed)

Teach for America is a NSCS employer Partner. If you went to the 2007 convention, you may recall their booth towards the back of the room by a corner. The recruiter was very enthusiastic about meeting all the members and every time I wanted to stop by for information she was busy. Now it is time to take action and decide whether you want to make a difference!!!

PS: Keep in mind that you do not have to be an education major and there are dozens of placement areas around the United States. Check out the website to see!!

Make a difference: Apply Teach For America

NSCS has been a recruitment partner for the past five years. We encourage NSCS members to consider making a difference with this amazing organziation.

Only 1 in 10 students from low-income communities will graduate from college.

Educational inequity is our nation’s greatest injustice – and it can be solved.

As you start thinking of graduating, we urge NSCS members of all academic backgrounds and professional ambitions to join the movement to eliminate educational inequity.

The next application deadline for the 2008 corps is:
